Maria del Refugio “Cuca” Casas de Hernandez, 86 of Chicago, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, March 14, 2018, at Mercy Hospital. Born in Zacatecas, Mexico on January 29, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Emeterio de Casas and Juana Carranza. On April 20, 1952, she married Bernardino Hernandez in Zacatecas, Mexico. He preceded her in death on June 11, 1974. In 1986, Cuca visited the U.S. for 2 years and in 1994 she permanently moved to the U.S. to be close to her children. As a homemaker, she enjoyed knitting, sewing, baking, watching novels and spending time with family and friends. Cuca was much loved by her family and her presence in their lives will be truly missed! Survivors include her children, Jose (Gloria) Hernandez of Mexico, Marcos (Belen) Hernandez of West Chicago, Florentino (Lorena) Hernandez of Chicago, Urbano (Leticia) Hernandez of Round Lake , J. Asuncion (Alicia) Hernandez of Chicago , Maria Hernandez of Chicago, Manuel (Ines) Hernandez of Round Lake, Manuela (Salvador) Hernandez Rojas of Carpentersville, J. Guadalupe (Monica) Hernandez of Wisconsin; her grandchildren: Rene, Jose Marcos, Alondra, Sonia, Ivan, Evelyn, Sherwin, Tino, Israel, Juan, Stephanie, Marisa, Nancy, Rogelio, Luis, Jesus, Aries, Andrew, Elwood, Alma, Jenny, and Alina; two sisters, Herminia and Margarita de Casas and several great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Bernardino Hernandez in 1974 and three brothers, Francisco, Pedro and Zenon de Casas.
