Arturo Hernandez Obituary

Arturo Hernandez, age 77, from Paxton, IL passed away peacefully on March 22nd. Beloved husband of the late Martha (nee Cabral); loving father of Carolina Hernandez, Fanny Cristina Hernandez and Arturo Jr. (Alla) Hernandez; devoted son of Alfredo (the late Ana Maria); cherished grandfather of Camilla and Madeline; dear brother of Teresa Hernandez, Aurora Hernandez, Benito Hernandez, Ana Maria Hernandez, Jose Manuel Hernandez, Rose Maria Elba Hernandez, Rita Hernandez, and the late Raymundo Hernandez; fond uncle of many in Mexico, California, Illinois, Indiana, Tennessee, Texas, Alabama, Florida especially Ernesto Ortiz (IN), Cristina Cabral (IN), Armando Gonzalez (IL), Nancy Abghari (CA), Richard Aguilar (WA), and Benito Hernandez (CA). 

Arturo dedicated his life to hard work, community, and the joy of connecting with people.  He began as a vendor at Maxwell Street Market and went on to spend more than 30 years at the Ashland Swap-O-Rama, where he became known for his spring flowers, year‑round nopales, and tall tales that always left people smiling. He owned and operated a farm in Xenia, Illinois, and proudly served in the Central Laborers' Union for over 20 years before retiring. Even then, he kept moving—running a restaurant in Olney, one in Taylorville, and later a Mexican grocery store in Bloomington. Arturo will be remembered for his generosity, humor, and the joy he brought to everyone who crossed his path. Visitation will be held on Thursday; March 26th at Michael Coletta Sons Funeral Home 544 W. 31st St. (Chicago) from 3:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M. Chapel Service  4:00 P.M. Interment Private.

Arturo will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
