Carmen Prescia, 93, of New Lenox, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, July 2, 2022 surrounded by his wife of 70 years and his loving family. Carmen was born on June 18th in Chicago, Illinois to the late Joseph and Celia Prescia. He was the adored older brother to Geraldine (Vincent) Bertucci. Carmen graduated from Loras College on a football scholarship and married the love of his life, Helen, in 1952. He went on to become an Accountant and eventually a Vice President/Comptroller in the Savings and Loan business until he retired. He was active in his parish at St. Denis for many years. Carmen loved to sing, golf, travel, play cards, complete bible word searches, watch game shows and was an avid White Sox fan; although spending time with his family was his favorite pastime.
Carmen is survived by his wife, Helen (nee Leato), and his children Fran (Mike) Pawlowski, Joe (Jenny) Prescia, Jaci (Shane) Dryanski, Karen (Ron) Dowling, and Sharon (Steve) Collins. He was the cherished grandfather of 14 and great-grandfather to 28 making for many treasured large family gatherings. He was beloved by many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. His legacy was his family and sharing the song his mother taught him, We’ Marie.
Visitation will be held at Kurtz Memorial Chapel, 102 Francis Road, New Lenox, IL on Thursday, July 7, 2022 from 3-9 pm. Funeral mass will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 19515 – 115th Avenue, Mokena, IL, on Friday July 8, 2022 at 10 am.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital (stjude.org) or a charity of your choice.
