A life-long resident of Chicago, Deborah was born in Great Lakes, Illinois, graduated from Fenger High School, and received her bachelor's degree in education at the University of Illinois, Chicago. She went on to receive Masters degrees in special education and business administration from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
Deborah dedicated her professional life to the teaching of students in the Chicago Public School System and the mentoring of other teachers. She was principal of Chrisopher Elementary School for physically disabled students. She received awards for excellence in teaching, including the Illinois Distinguished Educator Award from the Milken Foundation. After retirement from Chicago Public Schools, she went on to mentor other school principals through the New Leaders for New Schools initiative.
In addition to education, she was devoted to her daughter and husband of 55+ years; ever optimistic, Deborah had a deep appreciation for nature and love of friends and family. Her smile was infectious; she was a curator of local art and of stray pets, providing many with their forever homes.
Deborah is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Robert Anderson; daughter, Amillia Anderson; brother, Charles Stanley; and grandaughter, Trinitee.
