Eleanor Casella , a Chicago native, was born on March 20, 1922 and passed away on August 21, 2021. She was the daughter of Patrick Durkin and Bridget O’Hara Durkin who both immigrated to Chicago from Sligo, Ireland. Eleanor was nine years old when her father, a Chicago Police Officer, was shot and killed in the line of duty. She graduated from Rosary College, (now Dominican University), and worked for Catholic Charities in the city for forty years. In 1970 Eleanor married James Casella with who she spent fifty years of life. She was the beloved aunt of three nieces and six nephews. Visitation, Saturday; August 28th from 9:00 A.M.- until time of service 10:30 A.M. Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. For more info 312-225-8500.
