Frank S. ‘Frano the Barber’ Marasovich Obituary

Frano Marasovich, age 93, was called home on May 5, 2025. Treasured husband of Carol (nee Bogetich) of 68 years, cherished father of Lynn (Morse) Shankman, Dr. Lori Marasovich, and Lana (Pat) Cimaglia, devoted Dida to William and Michael Shankman, Patrick Cimaglia and Benjamin Marasovich, uncle and cousin to many, and friend to all.  Beloved middle son of the late Ivan and Rose Marasovich and much-loved by six late sisters and brothers. Special thanks to his wonderful caregivers Danguole (Danga) and Vida.

Once someone met Frano, they liked him immediately and remembered him forever. He was that kind of guy. He never went anywhere without knowing someone. He remembered the faces, names, and stories of everyone with whom he came in contact. A Korean War Veteran, he returned to become everybody’s favorite barber. His stories and laughs were always shared. In 2006, his shop was recognized by Mayor Daley and the Chicago City Council with a Resolution for 51 years of service to his community. He was President Emeritus of Club Sinj, member of Club Solta, Club Poljica, Chi Armour Men’s Club, Gabric Boosters, and the renowned Couples Club. Together with his wife, Carol, Frano especially loved attending any and all Croatian affairs.

In his younger years, he was an admired 16-inch softball shortstop and loved to bowl.  Later, golf was his passion. Frano was popular on the course for both his abilities and humor.

Nothing made him prouder than his girls and his grandsons. Frano loved being part of their everyday lives and watching them grow into remarkable adults. He was their biggest fan and loved just being with them no matter what they were doing; especially swimming in his pool, while he grilled nearby. He and Carol never missed a birthday, school event, sports game, concert or musical.

He loved a good laugh, his St. Jerome parish, his Croatian-American heritage, his second home in Naples, Florida, Jeopardy, friendships, and most especially his precious wife and his family. Frano was an amazing man, our hero. We shall miss him dearly. Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 10 at St. Jerome Croatian Catholic Church 2823 S.
