Longtime resident of the Pilsen neighborhood. Lucia made history by being appointed the first Mexican American Committee Woman for the old first ward in the mid 1970’s. She worked with Richard J. Daley, Michael Bilandic, Jane Byrne, Harold Washington, Eugene Sawyer and Richard M. Daley. She also worked with Congresswoman Cardiss Collin’s and accomplished many great things for the City of Chicago and the Pilsen community. Lucia was a community activist, fighting alongside her late Comadres, Raquel Guerrero, Lydia Romero, Senora Laredo, and Susie Gonzalez. Together they were instrumental in acquiring the El Hogar del Nino daycare center, the Rudy Lozano Library. Benito Juarez High School, the Lower West Side Health Center. She was a member of the Local School Council for Pilsen Community Academy and Benito Juarez High School.
Beloved wife of 52 years to the late Raymond Gutierrez Sr.; dearest mother of the late Rosemarie Sierra, Maryjane Andrade, the late Steven Gutierrez, Raymond Gutierrez Jr., the late Gloria Gene Arriaga (late Robert), Judy Ann Villarreal (late Paulino), Robert Gutierrez Sr., Richard Gutierrez (Virginia), and the late Peter Gutierrez (Connie); cherished grandmother of 27; loving great-grandmother of many. Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 2nd from 3:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M. at Michael Coletta Sons Funeral Home 544 West 31st Street. Monday June 2nd chapel prayers at the funeral home 9:15 A.M. with procession to St. Procopius for Mass of Christian Burial 1641 S. Allport St. Chicago. Interment St. Mary Cemetery.
