Mary Garza Obituary

Mary S. Garza, nee Sauceda, 85, longtime resident of Canaryville and Bridgeport neighborhoods, passed away June 25, 2024.  Beloved wife of the late Robert; loving mother of Rosemary Garza (Abel), Elizabeth Garza-Ruiz (Juan Ruiz), Paula Garza, Joseph (Juana “Jenny”) Garza, William (Billy) Ford, Yolanda (Wilfredo) Velez, Rudolph Garza Sr. CPD (Megan Aguinaga, fiancé), Judy (Jason) Hammerquist and the late John Robert Sr. (Hilda) Garza and the late Diana Garza; devoted daughter of the late Alvino and Paula Sauceda; cherished grandmother, great grandmother and great, great grandmother of many; dearest sister of Frances Ochoa, the late Pedro Sauceda and the late Gloria Aquinaga; fond aunt and great aunt of many nieces and nephews.

Mary was known for her fiery spirit and the tough love she instilled within her family, which only served to deepen the bonds she shared with them. Despite this tough exterior, she was also described as kind-hearted, sweet and loving by those who knew her best.  Her love extended not only to her family and friends but also to animals, whom she cherished dearly.

Mary had a deep appreciation for nature, particularly for Cardinals and the Texas Yellow Rose. Her love for country music was evident to all who knew her, with favorites including Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings, and Johnny Cash. She found joy in dancing and would often be found twirling to the tunes she held dear.

Mary’s absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of know her.  May she rest in peace knowing that she brought light and love into the lives of those around her.
