Mary "Mara" (Lisnic) Susnjara

Mara Šušnjara (née Lišnić), beloved mother, grandmother and devoted wife, passed away peacefully on February 4, 2026 at the age of 90. Mara was born in 1935 in the village of Vrpolje, Croatia, to father Filip and mother Iva Lišnić. She was the oldest of ten children in a loving and close family. She was preceded in death by: daughter Zdenka, son Šimon, parents, brothers Josip  and Nediljko, and sister Nevenka. She is survived by her beloved husband Stanko Šušnjara, to whom she was married for 65 years. Mara was the proud and loving mother of her two sons, Filip and Ivan (Nina). Her memory will forever be cherished by her beloved grandchildren: Nikola, Marko, Martina, Neven, Dario, Daniela, Juliana and Philip Jr. She is survived by her brothers Jure, family of brother Josip, Ivan, Mate and Frano with their families; sisters Ana (Zoko) and Anđelka (Brajković) with their families; and sisters-in-law Anđa (Tokić), Mila (Peša) with their families; and many other relatives. 

Her kindness, resilience and deep love for her family and many friends were the foundations of her life. She carried the strength of her Croatian heritage and the warmth of her rural roots throughout her days. Her memory will be a lasting blessing to all who knew and loved her.

Visitation will be held on Monday; February 9th at St. Jerome Croatian Catholic Church 2823 S. Princeton Ave. (Chicago) from 9:30 A.M.-11:00 A.M followed by Mass of Christian Burial 11:00 A.M. Interment Vrpolje, Croatia.
