Peter George Schurla (retired Deputy Chief of the Chicago Police Department) passed away peacefully surrounded by family. Pete shared nearly 64 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Sandy (nee Caputo). He is survived by his wife, his son Peter Joseph (Gia), daughter Leslie, and his grandchildren Joseph and Nicholas Kish, Luka and Natalie Schurla, his sister Helen Segvich, many nieces and nephews, the extended family in the United States and Croatia, as well as many dear friends. Born and raised in Chicago, Pete served nearly 42 years with the Chicago Police Department, where he was a respected leader and mentor. Faith was central to his life, and St. Jerome Parish was his spiritual home. A proud Croatian American, he cherished his heritage and family. He was a man of deep faith, sharp intellect, and steadfast loyalty and he will truly be missed by many! In lieu of flowers, donations appreciated: Police Chaplains Ministry, 1140 W.
