March 7, 1942 – May 27, 2026
Robert J. Melone, beloved family member, attorney, educator, veteran and friend, passed away on May 27, 2026, at the age of 84.
Born and raised in Elmwood Park, Illinois, Bob attended St. Celestine School and graduated from Elmwood Park High School. Bob received an appointment to the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado. Upon graduation, he was commissioned as an officer and assigned to serve in military intelligence.
Following his military service, Bob worked at the RAND Corporation in California before returning home to Illinois. He earned his law degree from DePaul University College of Law and built a distinguished and dynamic legal career centered on serving both his clients and his community. Over the decades, Bob guided friends and contemporaries through every stage of life — as a corporate attorney helping launch businesses, a family lawyer supporting growing families, a divorce attorney during difficult transitions, and an estate planning attorney helping clients protect their legacies. He also shared his knowledge and passion for the law as an instructor of legal writing at The John Marshall Law School in Chicago.
Bob will be remembered as an exceptional husband, father, family member and friend whose intelligence, dedication, humor, and loyalty touched countless lives.
He is survived by his loving family: Arlene (Alcedo) and Mykah Melone; his sister, Bernadette (Melone) McCarthy; his niece, Kathy (McCarthy) Distasio; and many cherished in-laws, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Armida (Melino) Melone.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Bob’s life at a Memorial Mass on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at St. Anne Catholic Church, 120 Ela St., Barrington, IL. The church will open at 9:30 a.m., with Mass beginning at 10:30 a.m.
Bob’s memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
