Ruth Josephine Monaco, age 83, of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, April 12, 2026. She was born on September 19, 1942, in Chisholm, Minnesota.
Ruth spent the majority of her adult life in Chicago, Illinois, where she built a distinguished career and raised her family. She was the beloved wife of the late Antonio Monaco, whom she married in 1973 in Chisholm, Minnesota. Antonio preceded her in death on February 11, 2024.
She was the loving mother of Gina (Matthew Ripsch) Monaco of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; the devoted daughter of the late Joseph and the late Frances (nee, Stepic) Hren; dear sister of the late Joseph Hren, the late Frances Hren, and the late Patricia Hren; and a proud soon-to-be grandmother.
Ruth earned her nursing degree from The College of St. Scholastica and later received her master's degree from Roosevelt University. A dedicated registered nurse, she devoted many years to the healthcare profession and later served as a consultant to hospitals, sharing her expertise and commitment to patient care.
A faithful member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Ruth lived a life grounded in faith, compassion, and service to others. She brought joy, comfort, and calm to all who knew her and will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all whose lives she touched.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 27th from 9:00 A.M.-10:00 A.M. at Michael Coletta Sons Funeral Home 544 W. 31st St. (Chicago). Chapel Service 10:00 A.M. followed by procession to Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
