Timothy David O’Hara age 90, of Chicago, died peacefully in his home on August 15th. Tim was born in Vestal, NY. The eighth of eleven children born to Beatrice (Houlihan) and Vincent O’Hara, Tim was reared on his parent's dairy farm/creamery in upstate New York until age 12, and then in Palm Beach, FL. Tim attended the University of Notre Dame as both an undergraduate and law student. While at Notre Dame, Tim met Sheilamae Shannon of Chicago who attended St. Mary’s College. Tim and Sheilamae were married for 54 years until her death in 2010.Tim and Sheilamae started their married life in the US Army with postings in Maryland and Stuttgart, Germany after which they moved to West Palm Beach, Florida, finally settling in Chicago.
For 25 years, Tim worked in the City of Chicago Corporation Counsel’s office after which he launched a private law practice. The family lived in Chicago’s Brainerd neighborhood until 1971, when they bought a 2-flat near Taylor Street on the Near West Side and converted it into a single-family home. That family home was sold in 2006 but Tim remained in the neighborhood until his death. Tim was a regular attendee at AA meetings where he made many cherished longtime friends. He was very grateful for the gift of 43 years of sobriety. Tim is survived by his children: Shannon, Maura (Bob Wielgos), Donna (Larry Hanson), Maeva O’Hara Jankovich (Bill), Tim (Mini); 8 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, and his siblings: Julie Bauer and Michael (Judy).Tim was predeceased by his wife, Sheilamae, his daughter Bridget, his parents Vincent and Beatrice O'Hara, his siblings Jane, Vincent Jr., Nan Jacobi, Bernard, Mary Deveney, Ellen Geary, Joyce Werner, and Joseph.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 18th from 8:00 A.M. – 9:45 A.M. at Our Lady of the Holy Family Church ,1338 W. Flournoy St., Chicago, IL 60607 Mass of Christian Burial 10:00 A.M. Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, 6001 W 111th St #6072, Alsip, IL 60803.
